INTERNATIONAL hotel giant Hilton says it reduced energy consumption by 10 per cent across its European estate in 2007.

The chain claims that water consumption across its 80 European hotels fell by five per cent - the equivalent of almost 75 Olympic-size swimming pools.

“In just two years we are seeing some very real and tangible results across Europe,” said Wolfgang M. Neumann, president Hilton Hotels Europe.

“We made a commitment in January 2006 to think green, take action and responsibility to switch to more environmentally sustainable methods of working - today’s results speak for themselves.

“The latest results show that we are on course to achieve our 2009 target of reducing energy consumption by 15 per cent."
