Both carnivorous and vegetarian chefs are being urged to enter the Cordon Vert School’s Vegetarian Chefs of the Future Contest 2009, to be in with a chance of winning prizes that could boost their career.

Two winners will be chosen after a live cook off in April to receive a prize package that includes a personalized chef`s jacket, a year’s membership to the Vegetarian Society, a hamper full of vegetarian products, and a scholarship for a Cordon Vert Diploma, worth £1.5k.

Chefs will first need to demonstrate their ability to design a three-course menu suitable for vegetarians, before being chosen to attend the live cook off final at the Cordon Vert School in Cheshire.

Katie Douglass, Catering Services Manager, said the contest would give chefs a chance to shine, but was also about potential and knowledge. “I know how difficult it often is to get the professional training needed to survive in the catering industry and this winner’s package could really give a chef a brilliant start or boost to their career. It’s a chance to learn from the experts, there’s nothing to lose.”

Applications must be received by 10 March, and can be found online at www.cordonvert.co.uk. The winners will receive their awards during National Vegetarian Week 18-24 May.
