One of the world’s first purpose-built environmentally friendly hotels is set to open as part of Battersea’s new Falcon Wharf Development in December.

The five-star, 65-bedroom Rafayel hotel will aim to reduce guests’ carbon footprints through the latest technological advances including LED lighting, which claims to reduce overall electrical costs by 80 per cent.

The hotel will also feature 15 apartments, a bar, lounge, coffee shop, spa, gym and pool, meeting and conference facilities and two restaurants offering indoor and outdoor dining. The 120-cover waterfront Banyan Riverside restaurant will make Asian-Italian fusion cuisine served in a ‘French style’ available throughout the day.

Ike Latif, developer of Rafayel, said he hopes the hotel will be the first of a branded product that embraces technological advances but is ecologically aware.

“There is no need to return to Stone Age living,” he said. “Being green should be our overall goal, but without compromising on the luxury that the modern age offers us. The concept of the hotel is a key step forward in formalising the intellectual renaissance of Battersea.”

The Rafayel hotel is due for completion in December, and will reduce the average guests carbon footprint from 70kg to 17kg per night.

I live in Montevitro, the best development so far on the river. I jog along the river walk and I see the development emerging in Falcon Wharf; the emerging landscape is simply stunning and the plants & trellises are a sight to behold. Yesterday I told picture of the newly designed trellises; I think probably Falcon Wharf will best the title as the best building on the River.

I am excited about the launch of the new hotel since its going to have a strong impact on the local area; Battersea needed classy restaurants and good spa. I'm simply thrilled and well-done..

I'm a resident south of the river and incredibly excited about the launch of this new hotel. I had heard about the restaurant as well, with some of the residents talking about a new California chef, Troy Thompson coming over to open it. Its about time that we guys south of the Thames begin to mirror the left bank of Paris! The developer is finally putting Battersea in the social map in London! A top class bar, health club, we are incredibly excited!
