16 Hospitality has bought two hospitality businesses - a pub and chef academy - in Anglesey from the Timpson family. 

Pub The White Eagle in Rhoscolyn and The Oyster Catcher in Rhosneigr, which is home to the Timpson's Chef Academy, join 16 Hospitality's existing sites in Cheshire - The Swan at Taporley and The Crown at Goostrey. 

The deal also sees Timpson, best known for its high street key-cutting, shoe repair and engraving business, take part-ownership of 16 Hospitality. 

16 Hospitality owner Edward Barlow, who set the company up in 2007, said the acquisitions were part of the first stage of growth for the company with more sites in the area currently being looked at for further expansion.

"Due to the many successes we have achieved in Cheshire, we are looking forward to an exciting expansion of our hospitality offer across the North West of England and Wales," he said. 

Staff and vision

To coincide with the acquisitions Barlow has appointed former executive chef Matthew Parker operations manager and has recruited Catherine Ling to assist in staff training and development. The company now employs more than 160 people. 

Barlow said: "Matthew Parker, along with Catherine Ling, will be instrumental in creating a vibrant pool of quality hoteliers, publicans, chefs, restaurateurs, housekeepers, bar and waiting staff that will all reflect our ethos of improving our offering every day.

“The vision that underpins all our operations is that each customer is delighted by every aspect of their visit. Quality service and food are equally as important to us as a great pint and a perfect log fire and the sites we open over the next few years will be places where the experience is key – whether it’s a predominantly wet-led pub, gourmet restaurant or family hotel, we want to create magic moments for our customers."

Barlow said 16 Hospitality was already planning to expand its training programme to include a bespoke hospitality apprenticeship providing skills in a number of areas.
