D&D London has revealed full details of the two restaurants set to open within the new South Place Hotel later this year.

The 80-bedroom South Place Hotel, described as a business ‘created by restaurateurs’,is set to open in the City of London in September and will feature the 3 South Place and Angler restaurants, both overseen by executive chef Tony Fleming.

"I’m extremely excited about the opportunities at South Place,” said Fleming, who has previously held positions at One Aldwych and the Great Eastern Hotel.

“As a hotel that’s run by restaurateurs, there’s real strength and integrity behind the food side of the business, which is every bit as important as the rooms side.

“This is a dream job for a 'hotel chef' like me: it's like having a brand new playground – there’s a massive incentive to get things right."

The opening of the 70-cover 3 South Place modern diner and the 80-cover Angler British seafood restaurant aim to bring ‘distinctive British cooking’ to the City.

3 South Place

Situated on the ground floor of South Place Hotel, 3 South Place features a modern menu comprising classic British comfort food including smoked cobb British salas, lobster ‘mac’ and the Heron Farm longhorn hamburger. Fleming will use local suppliers and ingredients, retaining an ‘accessible’ price point.

3 South Place’s interior, designed by Conran & Partners, features a mixture of modern and vintage furniture and eye-catching artwork including specially commissioned British diner ‘pop art’ prints.

Next door, the 3 South Place Bar offers a ‘happening’ scene with cocktails, artisan beers, a wide selection of wine and Champagne available. The bar menu will also feature a selection of snacks including Chicken Pie and Rarebit Soldiers. Art prints will feature on the Bar’s walls, commemorating the London 2012 Olympics.

Angler

Sat at the top of South Place Hotel, Angler will feature a ‘sophisticated yet simple’ menu inspired by fish, shellfish and crustaceans.

Dishes include roast cornish cod with a mariniere of cockles and squid; sole and langoustine ‘sausage’, Champagne and caviar sauce, and slow roast turbot, bone marrow, parsley and garlic to share.

Angler will also offer a 250-bin wine list featuring white wines from France as well as other, lesser-known wines from around the world. In the far corner of Angler, the Chef’s Room offers guests a peak into the bustling kitchen with space for 12 diners.

Outdoors, the Angler Terrace will provide a summery setting for al fresco dining and drinking. The Terrace will offer a more casual menu, an outdoor grill and an extensive list of wines and cocktails.

Design Hotels

Situated between Moorgate and Liverpool Street, South Place Hotel is a member of D&D's Design Hotels brand and will feature interiors designed by Terence Conran, who sold his stake in D&D London in 2006.

Alongside the two restaurants and three bars, the venue will feature two a set of meeting and dining rooms named after secret agents, in a nod to the area's spy heritage, and a games room which will act as a private club for hotel guests.

D&D London owns and operates over 30 restaurants in London, Paris, New York, Copenhagen and Tokyo. For more information on the hotel, visit www.southplacehotel.com
