USA-based hotel group Carlson Rezidor has revealed plans to refurbish the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport in a £10m project which the hotelier has said will be the largest hotel investment programme in the north of England.

Work has already begun on the iconic hotel, which originally opened in 1998. The venue will be fully refurbished over three phases lasting two years. The first phase, and the largest, is well underway.

“This is an exciting time for the hotel and we are delighted to be able to put such a considerable amount of investment into this flagship property," said Richard Moore, Carlson Rezidor area vice president for the UK & Ireland.

"The level of detail in the design and the thought processes behind the food and drink concept will create a real destination for our guests and the airport community," he added.

First phase

As part of phase one, the hotel's reception, lobby area, restaurant & bar, function & events area, 27 meeting rooms and 120 business class bedrooms will all be completed this year.

The Observatory Suite in the airport hotel will also be replaced by a business class lounge which will boast a private reception and dedicated check-in facility for business guests.

The hotel’s all-day dining restaurant will double in size with three unique zones for social, private or individual dining. Meanwhile, the bar will become a destination venue with the ambience changing throughout the day through seating, lighting and music, including live DJ’s.

Phase two of the project will see an additional 120 bedrooms being refurbished by early 2014. The final phase, in 2015, will include the refurb of the final 120 guest bedrooms.

Carlson Rezidor

Carlson Rezidor was created in 2012 when hospitality and travel firm Carlson merged with hotel group Rezidor.

The Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport is the only hotel at the airport with a direct link to the terminal, as well as the rail and coach stations.

The design of the refurb is the brainchild of Graven Images which has tried to link various spaces within the venue.

The 360 bedrooms will include the latest interactive technology and will feature a dark-stained ash timber design highlighted with violet cushions and bed throws.
