D&D London reveals details of its first 'hotel by restaurateurs'

South Place Hotel, the first hotel from D&D London, is to officially launch at the beginning of September and is described as a hotel 'created by restaurateurs' with previews of the F&B offering planned in time for the Olympics.

The 80-bed venue will feature two restaurants, Conran-designed interiors, three bars, a set of meeting and dining rooms named after secret agents in a nod to the area's spy heritage and a games room which will act as a private club for hotel guests.

Restaurateur hotel

Located between Moorgate and Liverpool Street, the hotel will, the owners say, be 'more meet than sleep' compared to other hotels in the capital.

Bruce Robertson, general manager of the D&D venue, said: “South Place Hotel is a hotel created by restaurateurs. It is as much about meet and eat as sleep. It also derives its inspiration from many of the things that make London buzz: cultural diversity, local neighbourhoods, understated wit and an easy sense of self."

"Whilst we will formally launch in September, we plan to open our restaurants and bars and to offer some previews and special events in time for the Olympics," Robertson added.

Angler restaurant

South Place Hotel will be a member of Design Hotels when it fully opens in September - a group of more than 200 independent hotels that all boast so-called 'thought-provoking design and ground-breaking architecture'.

Featuring interiors designed by Terence Conran, who sold his stake in D&D London in 2006 , the hotel will champion London artists through an annual art prize. 

D&D London, which achieved a star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) in April for all its restaurants in the capital , will operate two restaurants in the hotel. The seventh-floor Angler restaurant, with a kitchen led by Tony Fleming, will focus on seafood and shellfish and will feature a private dining room with views over the City of London.

Ground-floor 3 South Place will be a more relaxed restaurant operating alongside a 24-hour cocktail bar.

Meanwhile the other hotel bars include a rooftop terrace and a 'secret garden' on the first floor within the Frogmore-developed property.
