Earth Day: Hotel group to plant 10m trees by 2021
The French giant has already planted over 43,000 trees in 41 UK farms since 2013 as part of its Plant for the Planet scheme.
Its new targets – set out to mark Earth Day (22 April) – are designed to nurture links between guests, hotels and their supply chains.
Arnaud Herrmann, VP of sustainable development at AccorHotels, said: “Earth Day has set the whole world a challenge of planting 7.8bn trees by 2020 and I am proud to say that AccorHotels is doing its part. Currently we are planting an average of a tree every minute.
“Plant for the Planet…creates the opportunity for individuals to take action and drive change toward positive hospitality, wherever we are in the world.”
Green hotels
Last week Accor revealed the results of its ongoing Planet 21 sustainability programme – which has seen the group cut water consumption by nearly nine per cent and reduce carbon emissions by 6 per cent since 2011.
The group is aiming to open 1,000 urban vegetable gardens in its hotels by 2020 and reduce food waste in all its hotel restaurants by 30 per cent.
Accor operates 3,900 hotels across ten brands in 92 countries.
