London pub operator Gresham Inns has reported that 90 per cent of its rooms in the capital have already been sold for the period of the 2012 Olympics.

The group operates two venues in the capital - The Pride of Paddington, which has 54 beds, and the Cork & Bottle Wine Bar in Leicester Square .

“There’s been an amazing uplift in bookings and enquiries over the past few weeks, as if people have finally woken-up to the fact that this is happening,” said Will Clayton, the operator’s managing director (pictured).

“In a two week period from the start of the year, we’ve sold just over 90 per cent of our available beds.

“I’m still certain that the Olympics won’t be the shot in the arm many in the trade think it will be – I think those in and around the parks will benefit, but that for every person that comes into London for the Olympics, there’ll be one who wants to get the hell away from the circus, much like most operators experienced during the Royal Wedding last year.”
