Hotel bookings for late April 2011 have already tripled since the announcement of the date of the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton this week.

Bookings site LateRooms.com saw a dramatic increase in reservations for the date of the wedding, 29 April, compared to just seven days beforehand.

Andrew Pumphrey, managing director of LateRooms.com, said: “Such a massive surge in bookings for a date so far in advance is almost unheard of, and demonstrates the phenomenal public support and enthusiasm for the big day next year.”

The wedding is expected to help provide Britain with a two-year tourism boost, with some experts believing the event will be more popular than the Olympic Games in 2012 .
