InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a deal with St James' Hotels Group to open a Hotel Indigo in the centre of Bath.

The 121-bedroom hotel, situated in a Grade 1 listed Georgian building on South Parade, will operate under a franchise agreement with St James' Hotels Group, which is a subsidary of IHG's long-term partner Somerston Group.

Work to rebrand what is currently the Halcyon and Pratt's hotels will take place later this year, creating new bedrooms, a restaurant, bar and gym, before the hotel opens at the end of 2016.

Shaun Robinson, managing director of St James’ Hotels Group, which owns nine hotels in England, said: “Hotel Indigo and Bath are the perfect fit. I am very excited to be bringing the brand to a place that enjoys a world-wide reputation as a ‘must-see’ city drawing guests from every continent, keen to experience the architecture, the culture and the history.”

Anna Corkill, IHG’s development director for the UK, said: “The boutique hotel market is the fastest growing segment in the industry and our pioneering Hotel Indigo brand is leading the field in Europe. We’re thrilled to have found such a perfect site in Bath and we’re looking forward to working with St James’ Hotels Group to open a brand-defining Hotel Indigo property.”

IHG's boutique hotel brand  has expanded into a number of cities across the UK since its launch at Paddington in 2009. There are currently eight Hotel Indigo properties open in the UK with another seven in the pipeline.

Earlier this year the brand implemented a new neighbourhood food policy to its F&B offering, serving up food and drink from local food producers in order to broaden its appeal out both guests and local customers.
