People 1st is asking hospitality businesses which are 'passionate about skills and apprenticeships' to nominate representatives for a new Hospitality Apprenticeship Board.

The board will play a major part in overseeing the external quality assurance of the independent assessment that takes place at the end of an apprenticeship.

Each member of the board will be responsible for ensuring that standards for the new employer-driven hospitality apprenticeships remain high and are relevant for all businesses across the industry.

Earlier this year the industry pledged to offer more than 30,000 apprenticeships to help supply the 1.3m skilled staff it will need to operate effectively in the next decade.

People 1st's director of strategic policy Annette Allmark said: “The hospitality industry is leading the way when it comes to taking ownership of apprenticeship quality. Joining the board presents a huge opportunity to businesses and individuals that want an instrumental role in the future of hospitality apprenticeships.

“The board will be made up of a diverse range of industry representatives and in addition to those with learning and development backgrounds, we are hoping that people with expertise in operations, communication and finance will also join. Members will be responsible for championing apprenticeships within their networks encouraging growth and best practice delivery.”

Fifteen positions are available on the board. To find out more and to apply visit www.people1st.co.uk/Industry-apprenticeship-boards. The closing date for applications is 7 October 2016.
