Ahead of the Olympic Games in London, budget hotel chain Jurys Inn has launched a regional dialect guide to give to tourists visiting its UK hotels this summer.
The Jurys Inn regional greetings guides have been compiled from followers of its social media accounts and contains familiar phrases from across Britain. The guide will be available to overseas tourists at all 24 city centre Jurys Inn hotels.
"We are increasingly aware that, for overseas guests in particular, our array of regional accents can sometimes be difficult to grasp," Suzanne Cannon, the marketing manager for Jurys Inn, said.
"With more tourists than ever expected to visit Britain for the Olympics this summer, we thought it a great opportunity to extend our warm welcome with a helpful guide to our cities’ favourite phrases," she added.
Among the phrases listed in the guides are the various ways to describe tea in different parts of the country including 'brew’ in Lancashire, 'tae’ in Northern Ireland and a cup of 'Rosie Lee’ in London.
