Maxwell’s Restaurants Group has revealed plans to open a new Covent Garden venue as part of a wider £1m investment across its late-night estate.

The Brian Stein-owned brand is set to launch Caribbean-themed restaurant and bar Tropicana Beach Club in the former Guanabara site in early October.

The 600-capacity venue will feature nightly bands, dancers, singers and cabaret style entertainers every Wednesday to Sunday until 2.30am.

It will be the twelfth addition to Maxwell’s London portfolio, which includes Roadhouse in Covent Garden and Café de Paris.

Maxwell’s said it was planning to invest in its late-night venues over the next two years due to a growing confidence in London’s night-time industry following the launch of the Night Tube and the imminent appointment of a Night Mayor.

Jim Robertson, Maxwell’s group operations manager, said: “It has been a difficult time for nightclubs and late night entertainment venues in recent years but we are confident in the future of London’s nightlife following the appointment of a London Mayor who clearly understands and values the importance of a thriving late night economy.

“Maxwell’s Restaurants group has been around 45 years and ‘seen it all’ – from recessions to the boom years and we’re more confident than ever that now is the right time to open a brand new venue.”

Robertson is leading the project alongside Anthony Knight, group sales and marketing manager, and Jonathan Napier who joins as general manager from Inception Group’s Bunga Bunga in Battersea.
