Michelin buys Bookatable

Michelin has completed the purchase of the online restaurant booking service, Bookatable, in a move to develop its online restaurant reservation market in Europe.

Bookatable has more than 15,000 businesses using its service and helped book over 34m covers in Europe in 2015.

In a statement, Michelin say that the acquisition will enable it to develop both the quality of service offered to customers and new services to ‘build the offers of the future’.

The move comes as Michelin seeks to speed up its growth in travel assistance services, and as it aims to help develop businesses by offering new solutions and to help customers by making it easier for them to book tables.

Michelin aims to roll out the service in more countries in the future, with a focus on Scandinavia.

In June, Bookatable announced a ‘pay-at-table’ mobile payment system on its app, while in 2015 the company announced a partnership to promote sustainable food with the Sustainable Restaurant Association
