Prezzo chief executive Jonathan Kaye has declared the issue of VAT is 'vital' for the industry as the restaurant operator joins the industry lobbying organisation VAT Club JB.

The club, founded by French-born industry veteran Jacques Borel, now numbers a range of restaurant and pub operators, including T.G.I. Friday's and Punch Taverns, all calling for a fairer rate of VAT in the UK.

"The restaurant group serves thousands of customers each week and a reduction in VAT will benefit them and their customers and also help to create jobs," Kaye said.

In a recent exclusive interview for BigHospitality, Ufi Ibrahim, the British Hospitality Association (BHA) chief executive, said the Government's refusal to consider cutting VAT for hospitality and bring it in line with other European nations was affecting the industry's ability to move forward.

"I fully support the aims of VAT Club JB and am delighted that Prezzo has joined the organisation. This is a vital issue for the industry and it is important that restaurateurs back it 100 per cent,” Kaye added.
