Restaurant magazine: Alan Yau vows to quit hospitality industry

Restaurateur Alan Yau has announced his intention to quit the hospitality business following the launch of several restaurant projects in London over the next year.

In an exclusive interview in the August issue of Restaurant magazine, out tomorrow, the Wagamama and Hakkasan founder hints that Naamyaa, the Thai restaurant he will open in Islington this autumn could be one of the last he opens. 

“There are one-off restaurant projects in London planned and I might look at doing something major early next year, but this is the end of the line for me. I’m changing profession,” he told Restaurant. 

Interviewed at his Hong Kong restaurant St Betty, Yau also discusses Wagamama, the effect of the UK's immigration policy on staffing, consistency and plans for a Turkish concept in this rare opportunity. 

Restaurant magazine also speaks to Jacob Sumner, responsible for managing US burrito giant Chipotle's business in the UK and investigates the rise in the number of restaurants now making vegetables the star performer on the plate.
