US hotel company Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has this week opened the doors to Rosewood London after a major refurbishment and rebranding of the five-star Chancery Court Hotel in Holborn.

The 262-bedroom and 44-suite hotel has been redesigned as a ‘stylish London residence’ by New York-based Tony Chi and Associates.

Meanwhile the hotel’s new F&B offering will include Holborn Dining Room. Opening in February in the space currently occupied by Pearl Restaurant and Bar, the new restaurant will be operated by Des McDonald who looks to bring a ‘fun, vibrant atmosphere’ to the historic setting.

“Rosewood London encompasses an element of surprise in its design which gives this landmark building, steeped in and surrounded by history, the lease of life it deserves,” said Rosewood London’s managing director Matthias Roeke. “We are honoured to be the stewards of an exciting new chapter in its legacy.”

Restaurants and bars

As we reported earlier in the year, Swiss-born chef Bjorn van der Horst is returning to London to oversee all food and beverage operations at the hotel. Holborn Dining Room includes a bar and a dining counter, each topped with aged copper and patina brass. The room leads to The Terrace in the hotel’s peaceful inner courtyard, where guests can dine alfresco or enjoy a fine cigar. Adjoining the new restaurant is Holborn Delicatessen, also launching in February 2014, which opens directly onto High Holborn and offers a range of coffees, teas and pastries for those on the move.

The hotel’s bar, designed by the renowned Martin Brudnizki, features warm, cosy and comfortable furniture and an extensive cocktail list accompanied by a menu of curries and casseroles, featuring spicy Indian dishes and European-style stews.

Rosewood London claims to now offer some of London’s finest accommodation, with suites including the Grand Manor House Wing. Accessed via a private elevator and its own street entrance, thsi is the only hotel suite in the world to have its own postcode.

Six bedrooms, a dressing chamber, a library, a dining room and several sitting rooms are arranged over 6,318 sq.ft of living space.  The Garden House features a garden terrace overlooking the London skyline. All guests residing in suites receive access to the hotel's Manor Club, which offers a personal butler and concierge service as well as a menu of cocktails and light dishes.

Events spaces

The Lobby Lounge, a public meeting space, is the window into the stylish world of Rosewood London and the Mirror Room, a striking salon elegantly adorned with mirrors, offers appealing and social all-day dining and afternoon tea.

The hotel also offers 11 event spaces include the Grand Ballroom, three heritage boardrooms, the Living Room and the Dining Room with show kitchen.  A first for London, the hotel offers a unique Event Studio, showcasing Rosewood London’s collection of china, linens, crystal, silverware and further accessories for personalised events. Other recreational facilities at the hotel include a Sense spa and a fitness suite.

Chancery Court Hotel, set within an Edwardian Grade II-listed building, was opened in 2000 by Marriott International and managed by its Renaissance brand until June 2011 when the contract ended. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts now manages 18 one-of-a-kind luxury properties in nine countries.
