Industry charity Springboard is calling for hospitality businesses to support its first Front-of-House festival.

The event, which runs from 17 to 21 October, is designed to raise the profile of front-of-house roles across the industry and encourage more young people and jobseekers into this area.

Restaurants and hotels are being urged to sign up to the event and give their support by hosting career talks, skills demonstrations, buddy days and other related events.

The festival, which incorporates the annual National Waiters' Day Race, has the following format:

  • Monday – Barista Day
  • Tuesday – Front of House and Guest Services
  • Wednesday – Leisure and Tourism Visitor Services
  • Thursday – National Waiters' Day Race
  • Friday – Drinks and Beverage

Springboard CEO Anne Pierce said: “Springboard’s Front-of-House Festival has been devised to increase awareness of the range of roles available in front of house. It’s the ideal opportunity for jobseekers and businesses alike, with activities ranging from skills challenges to talks, and of course the Waiters' Day Race."

The funds raised from National Waiters' Day will support Springboard’s Food & Beverage (FAB) programme in schools, which is designed to encourage students to explore and consider careers in front of house, whilst aligning with the curriculum.
