This year's Restaurant Show has opened at Earl's Court 2 in London, kicking off three days of events designed to help restaurateurs and chefs build a better business.

Today's line-up includes the launch of the first ECats competition , a contest designed to celebrate the rise and success of the event catering sector and demonstrations from chef patissier Claire Clark, chefs Sat Bains, Paul Foster and Peter Gilmore of Quay in Sydney, patissier William Curley and Maze London general manager Sid Clark and head chef Tristin Farmer.

There will be discussions on how to reduce your restaurant's environmental impact and the street food revolution at the Business Bootcamp and seminars with drinks experts Charles Metcalfe and Isabelle Legeron over in the Drinks Quarter.

Experts from across the industry will be ready to give advice to visitors and producers and suppliers will be on hand to show their latest products and unveil new ideas and services.

This year, to better reflect the changing landscape of the dining out scene, the on-site restaurant has been replaced by nine street food vendors - Bhangra Burgers, The Rib Man, The Bowler, You Doughnut, Luardos, Big Apple Hot Dogs, Sorbitum Ices, Spit & Roast and Green Goat.

BigHospitality, sponsor of the Business Lounge, will be at the show bringing you the latest. Highlights of our coverage will include:

  • Results from the ECats, National Chef of the Year 2012 and Compass Junior and Senior Chef of the Year competitions
  • Video interviews with chefs Sat Bains and Daniel Clifford
  • A review of the Chef Africa trip with Ashley Palmer Watts on behalf of the Farm Africa charity - Centre Stage on Tuesday at 11.30am
  • Coverage of key discussions at the Business Bootcamp
  • Interviews with Marco Pierre White, Jose Pizarro and more

BigHospitality will also be hosting the panel discussion - Heading Towards 2017: How do we nurture the hospitality talent of the future? with Marcus Weedon of Carluccio's, Ben Spalding of John Salt, Gary Hunter of Westminster Kingsway and Suzy Jackson of the Hospitality Guild as our panellists - on Wednesday 10 October at 1pm.

To mirror the show's purpose to help visitors source new products, all this week our product news will be dedicated to products being unveiled at the show. If you can't down there or don't have time to get around all the producers, read our articles for more about products from ANZCO, Essential Cuisine and more.
