Lancashire-based Seafood Pub Company (SPC), which is backed by Penta Capital, is to open its first site in Yorkshire after acquiring The Red Lion pub in Harrogate.

The venue – the 11th in the company’s portfolio ‒ will now undergo a £1.5m development, and is set to reopen under a new name in the summer.

With 260 covers, as well as modern-style guest bedrooms, it will be the first of a series of openings planned by the company over the next 12 months.

The original exterior of the site will remain, but the interior will take on the SPC’s usual design.

The menu will feature the SPC’s usual seafood dishes, alongside pub classics, using fresh produce from fisherman Chris Neve, father of SPC founder and managing director Joycelyn Neve (pictured).

“We've been looking at crossing over the border into Yorkshire for some time,” says Joycelyn. “And, as a striking, and well-located site, it was exactly the sort of property we were looking for…We’re looking forward to becoming part of the local community, to make sure we are delivering menus and service fitting of the area and its people.”

Founded in 2011, SPC now operates 11 sites – including the new venue – across Lancashire and Yorkshire, and has a turnover of over £11m. It announced significant plans to expand after confirming an £18m majority stake deal from Penta Capital (former backer of La Tasca, EAT, and Geronimo Inns) in July last year.
