The Waldorf Hilton completes £800k Adelphi Suite refurb

The Waldorf Hilton has announced it has completed an £800k project to refurbish its Adelphi Suite function room; the first part of a larger multi-million pound project to renovate the 1920s hotel.

Marble columns in the Adelphi Suite are now listed, prohibiting any renovation, however, the rest of the suite has been given a new colour scheme and art deco furnishings and fittings. Original wall lights have also been restored and 1920s designs have been incorporated.

Peter Beckwith, general manager of The Waldorf Hilton in Aldwych, London said the 450-person capacity suite could also split into three spaces and its refurb marked the beginning of a wider renovation of the hotel first opened in 1908.

"The Adelphi Suite marks the start of the 2012 refurbishment plan and continued efforts to provide a high quality, unique setting for all of our guests. The hotel has beautiful architecture and with this in mind, we have endeavoured to recreate the sophistication and style celebrated in the 1920s, which we feel reflects the elegance of the building," he said. A cocktail bar in the hotel was refurbished last year.
