UK chefs are being urged to enter the 2013 series of MasterChef: The Professionals with applications for the BBC TV show closing at the end of March.

The sixth series of the professional cooking contest will air later this year but the 2013 winner will become the seventh chef judges Michel Roux Jr and Gregg Wallace crown MasterChef: The Professionals champion after Keri Moss and Anton Piotrowski shared the top prize last year.

In a statement, the show's producers said: "Having established itself as one of the top professional competitions in the country, this sixth series will continue to push its contestants to prove they have the talent and ability to cook at the highest levels.

"For any chef who aspires make it to the top of their industry, and who believes they have the skill and the flair to cut it in the World’s best kitchens, this is the only competition to be part of."

Interested chefs will need to be residents of the UK, aged 20 or above on 1 May this year and have worked in a professional kitchen for at least two years.
