Industry votes Hand & Flowers top gastropub of 2012

The Hand & Flowers in Marlow has been voted top gastropub by members of the industry in the 2012 Top 50 Gastropub Awards.

The venue, run by Tom and Beth Kerridge and which became the first pub to be awarded two Michelin stars last year, moved up from second place to take the top spot this year in the awards, organised by The Publican's Morning Advertiser.

Other pubs making the list included the Harwood Arms in Fulham (2), The Star at Harome (3) and The Anchor and Hope at Waterloo (4).

Five special accolades were also given out at the awards at Stoke Place in Buckinghamshire yesterday.

Gastropub Chef of the Year went to Jason King of the Wellington Arms in Baughurst, Hampshire, while the Front of House Manager award went to Simon Farrimond of The Angel at Hetton in North Yorkshire and the Business Innovation Award went to The Pigs in Edgefield, Norfolk.

The British Larder in Suffolk, voted number 32 on the list, was also voted Best Newcomer while the Canton Arms in Stockwell was the Highest Climber, making number 17 on this year's list.

More than 500 members of the industry - from gastropub operators to chefs, food writers and pub guide editors - form the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropubs Voting Academy which is broken down into eight geographical regions. Each person votes for four pubs they have visited in the past 12 months.

  7. The Hinds Head, Bray, Berkshire
  8. The Hardwick, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire
  9. Pipe & Glass, Beverly, East Yorkshire
  10. The Sportsman, Seasalter, Kent
