Kraft Foods, who have organised the competition in collaboration with the Craft Guild of Chefs, professional chef Sophie Wright, and City & Guilds, said the aim is to “stretch” trainee chefs and give them a helping hand towards their professional lives.

The Philadelphia Young Chef of the Year competition is open to trainee chefs in full time education aged 17-23. Participants need to enter an original recipe using Philadelphia for a starter or main course. Four finalists will take part in a live cook-off in May.

The overall winner will receive a £500 cash prize and the three runners up will each receive £200. The winner’s catering college will also receive £1000 worth of Continental Chef Supplies vouchers.

The deadline for entry is 10 April 2011. More information can be found on the Philadelphia website.
