With a horn raised to his lips as if about to drinkRedzepi began an acceptance speech that pointed to the comical, but turned out instead to be a sincere tribute to his team. For a chef who has hogged much of the limelight during the 12 months since he was last on stage at London's Guildhall, taking home the much-coveted trophy for the first time, it was a touching display of solidarity.
All in all it was a fitting conclusion to an incredible awards evening, which, once again, saw chefs make the journey from across the world.
Among those present were Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud, Grant Achatz, Heston Blumenthal, Massimo Bottura, David Change and Alex Atala, with chefs from 21 countries represented on the list in attendance.
From Singapore to Australia, Hong Kong to South Africa, that chefs come to celebrate the collective passion in the culinary world remains the enduring success of the S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards.
Redzepi ended the evening by saying the he wanted to make it three in a row next year - certainly not something he's taking for granted. Ther'es only 350-odd days to go to find out if he and his can pull it off.
