Twelve restaurants within this year's World's 50 Best Restaurants list have donated meals to a special Christmas auction held by charity Farm Africa.

From 21 November, the restaurants, which include Osteria Francescana (three) in Italy, Mugaritz (four) in Spain and Steirereck (nine) in Austria will be giving bidders a once-in-a-lifetime chance to win experiences, with exclusive menus and behind-the-scenes tours part of the lots which will be auctioned off for Farm Africa's 12 Days of Christmas event.

Money raised from the eBay auction will go towards Farm Africa's Food For Good initiative, which aims to end hunger in eastern Africa by delivering long-term solutions.

Farm Africa’s director of fundraising and communications, Pam Williams-Jones, said: “Whilst the luxurious dining rooms of some of the restaurants on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list are a world away from African villages, preparing and sharing food brings us all together. So it is extremely gratifying that leading restaurants and chefs have recognised the importance of tackling hunger and have shown such incredible commitment to raising money to support our life-changing work.

"I’d like to extend our huge thanks to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants for all their vital support in helping us to end hunger for hundreds more families across Africa and for deepening our relationships within the restaurant sector.”

Thirty-five of the top 50 restaurants in all have pledged to support the campaign, donating a number of prizes that will be used for the auction and other events.

They join a host of UK restaurants and chefs, including Ashley Palmer-Watts of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Paul Foster of Tuddenham Mill, John Freeman of Restaurant Sat Bains in supporting the charity. Earlier this year they and Bar Boulud's senior maitre'd' Paolo de Tarso climbed Kilimanjaro to help raise thousands of pounds towards the charity's campaign.

The restaurants taking part in the 12 Days of Christmas online auction are: 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo (Hong Kong); Quique Dacosta (Spain); Restaurant Andre (Singapore); Mirazur (France); Le Calandre (Italy); Hof van Cleve (Belgium); Nihonryori Ryugin (Japan); Attica (Australia); Le Bernardin (USA); Steirereck (Austria); Osteria Francescana (Italy); and Mugaritz (Spain).
