Gordon Cartwright, managing director of Visionary Dining and former AA restaurant inspector, is organising a series of culinary events in support of Hospitality Action.

On 20 October, 10 of the UK’s top chefs will be going head to head in a competition inspired by visionarydining.com and judged by Michelin-starred chefs Sat Bains and Monica Galetti.

The competition is the culmination of 10 regional heats. The winners from each heat accompany their mentor in the Visionary Chef of the Year Dinner being held at the Lakes Hotel School in Cumbria, one of Europe’s top culinary learning centres.

Simon Rogan, chef patron of L’Enclume in Cumbria, and one of the celebrity chef mentors on the night, said: “Not only do the competitors learn from top chefs but if we can unlock dormant world class talent whilst helping an important charity, and share that experience with the public, then everyone is a winner.”

Tickets for the 10-course dinner are priced at £125, with profits going to Hospitality Action. The winner will be awarded all-expenses-paid dinner at any restaurant in the world.

The Great 8

Another of Cartwright’s culinary events is the Great 8. Eight of the UK’s top chefs have begun a 16-month tour of the UK, as they host an 8-course tasting menu, inclusive of wine, to showcase their cooking style, flair and passion.

The tour kicked off with Steven Smith hosting at the Freemasons at Wiswell, Lancashire on 26 September. The second event then heads south on November 28th to see Michelin-starred chef Michael Wignall host his dinner at Northampton College.

Cartwright said: “This initiative allows the public to enjoy the benefits of a unique travelling restaurant called the Great 8, while supporting Hospitality Action, a cause really close to all of our hearts.”

Tickets are priced at £100 with all profits going to Hospitality Action.
