Compass Group has awarded its Young Chef of the Year title to Jack Crow from Coutts Bank on The Strand after a live final at The Restaurant Show this morning
Crow, who only joined Compass last year from Westminster Kingsway College, beat nine other entrants to win the competition’s title and a culinary tour to South Africa.
He told BigHospitality he would consider entering the senior competition in a couple of years, the 2010 final of which will be held this afternoon.
“I made sure I got a lot of practice and took time to make sure my dishes were perfect by tasting them all the time. It’s amazing, I’m really happy I won - I didn’t expect it at all. Everyone did an amazing job.”
Second place went to Lee Warren of Haileybury College, while joint third place was given to Lauryn Barrett of 1 Cabot Square in Canary Wharf, and Anthony Glover of Haileybury College.
Nick Vadis, organiser of the Compass Group Chef of the Year, said the competition was ‘extremely close’ this year.
“The competition was so close that we awarded two bronzes, which is usually unheard of, but it was so close on points we decided to give four prizes.”
The Senior competition will take place at The Restaurant Show this afternoon.
