McCain Foods has added a new ‘chip shop’ type chip to its Classics potato products range which is says could enable restaurants and pubs to drive sales of traditional fish and chip-style dishes, save time in the kitchen and even introduce a fish and chip takeaway service.

Chippy Chips have an irregular, hand-cut style chunky appearance and are designed to accompany a range of fish and chip dishes such as fish cakes, steak & ale pie or battered sausages and sauces such as curry sauce and gravy.

McCain Foods marketing manager Donna Rowbottom suggests the product will save a busy kitchen preparation time and cut wastage while also giving an incentive to launch a takeaway service.

She said: “Chippy Chips give operators a significant opportunity to drive incremental profit by offering customers a genuine chip shop taste experience in the warm, comfortable surroundings of a pub or restaurant.

“Introducing a takeaway service to offer Chippy Chips with simple to prepare dishes such as fish or batterered sausages could even provide a new revenue stream without having to introduce any major operational changes.”

The chips, made from only British potatoes, cook in just 5 minutes and are dual storage, so are ideal for outlets with limited freezer space. They are available in 4 x 2.5kg cases.
