Chefs Kevin McFadden, James Whetlor and Rosie Sykes have donated recipes to Farm Africa's #GivingTuesday campaign to help raise funds for the charity's urban veg garden appeal.

Farm Africa, the development charity which works with smallholder farmers in eastern Africa to help end hunger, hopes to share the recipes to help raise awareness of the campaign and thank its supporters.

The charity, which has gained the support of chefs such as Ashley Palmer-Watts and Paul Foster in the past, is celebrating #GivingTuesday on Tuesday 1 December, a global day of giving and the charity sector's answer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

McFadden, head chef at May the Fifteenth restaurant in Clapham, has created a recipe for African meatballs with dumplings while chef and food writer Rosie Sykes's recipe is for Spiced tomato, squash and creamed kale gratin.

Former River Cottage chef James Whetlor, now working at goat meat supplier Cabrito, has also created a recipe for the appeal - Kid shank and quince tagine.

Farm Africa will use the recipes to help promote its urban vegetable gardens project in Nairobi in Kenya. All recipes use vegetables that will be grown in the school gardens.

"Many children there are malnourished and to address this problem we are setting up urban vegetable gardens so that school communities can grow healthy food for children to eat at lunch, adding vital nutrients to their diet," said a charity spokesperson.

To coincide with the campaign, food processors ABP Food Group, and poultry supplier Moy Park, will match online donations to the appeal between 17 November and 1 December up to a total of £6,000.
