Mark Hix’s long-awaited plans for a restaurant in the Tramshed building in London’s Shoreditch have been revived, with a new 150-cover restaurant and bar set to open next month.

The Tramshed deal had originally fallen flat over problems with securing a licence after 11pm, forcing Hix to pull out last July having already spent £100,000 on the concept. But all issues have been overcome, giving Hix the green light to continue.

“I’ve always been extremely fond of the building ever since I moved into Great Eastern Street some 10 years ago,” said Hix. “It’s been a long-term mission of mine to do something with it and I am delighted to finally be in a position to create something really exciting here."

On the menu

The Tramshed will feature a small, simple menu based around chicken and steak. Diners will have a choice of a whole Woolley Park chicken to share and 200g multiples of ‘mighty marbled’ sirloin steaks. Either side of these two ingredients, diners will be offered three starters to share and dessert.

The restaurant will be based over a mezzanine floor, with a combination of shared refectory-style dining and banquette-style seating along with an eight-metre bar with counter dining.

Tramshed sees Hix go back to a neighbourhood he has previously had close connections with, having lived there for many years. Since leaving Shoreditch over seven years ago to embark on building his own restaurant group , the chef-turned-restaurateur and business partner Ratnesh Bagdai have seen HIX restaurants go from strength-to-strength, moving first into Soho and the West End and most recently into Knightsbridge, in the new Belgraves in Belgravia.

The Grade-II-listed Tramshed building on Garden Walk and Rivington Street was built in 1905 as an electricity-generating facility for the tramway system.

The Tramshed is looking for front and back-of-house staff. To apply for a job through BigHospitality Jobs click here
