Liverpudlian catering tutor Claire Lara was last night named Professional Masterchef 2010 , and can now expect to see her career flourish as a result.

She follows in the footsteps of Derek Johnstone, the series' inaugrual winner from 2008 who now works with Michel Roux Jr at Le Gavroche, and Steve Groves , the former junior sous chef at Launceston Place and last year’s winner.

Following the BBC competition, many Masterchef winners have gone on to enjoy fruitful chef careers, including Thomasina Miers, Mat Follas and Steven Wallis.
