Michael Caines creates new City & Guilds qualification
The new Michael Caines Academy at Exeter College will accept just 16 students aged 16-19 each year – eight chefs and eight front of house.
Students will be taught through practical and theoretical workshops and given a variety of learning experiences beyond the classroom, including masterclasses, farm, brewery, bakery and abattoir visits and butchery demonstrations. They will also be given the chance to enter competitions, visit trade shows, and partake in work experience at top hotels and restaurants.
Caines said: “Our hospitality industry and colleges have to work together to develop the right learning skills. The Academy is doing just this by working in partnership with some of the best restaurants, pubs, caterers and hotels within our region and beyond to develop our students and to provide them with long term employment via an apprenticeship or through direct placement. We need to ensure that we continue to offer excellence in all we do if we are to maintain this important South West industry as a first choice for the consumer and as an employer alike.”
Once completed, students will have the opportunity to go on to complete City & Guilds Level 3 and 4 diplomas.
Those interested in joining should apply before 17 June, for a September start date at www.exe-coll.ac.uk/College/MichaelCainesAcademy.aspx.
