With the 98-bedroom, six-storey Sleeperz Newcastle hotel scheduled to open in January, Mark Armstrong has been named as general manager, while Deborah Parkinson has been hired as sales manager.

Armstrong, who brings with him 23 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and previously managed Newcastle’s Caledonian Hotel, will oversee the recruitment and development of 25 staff at Sleeperz Newcastle and manage the hotel’s daily operations.

“This is a dynamic time for the hospitality industry in Newcastle and the North East,” he said. “Sleeperz is bringing a completely new premium budget hotel product to the region and I’m excited about building a successful team, providing great service and building a first class reputation for the hotel.”

Parkinson, of Denton Burn Newcastle, joins with 11 years’ experience in the hotel industry having worked her way up from receptionist to a general manager position with Premier Inn Hotels in Newcastle.

She said: “This is a great opportunity to develop my career by helping grow a new and exciting budget hotel brand. The hotel is already looking superb and we are all looking forward to putting Sleeperz Hotels on the map in the North of England.”

Legacy Woodhall Spa Hotel

Meanwhile, the Legacy Woodhall Spa Hotel in Lincolnshire has introduced Ivan Bennett as general manager.

Bennett, 56, previously managed the Legacy Oaklands Country House Hotel and claimed he was “delighted to be back in Lincolnshire.”

His first task is to prepare the venue and its 30 staff for the upcoming festive period. “My initial aims are to develop the wedding market at the hotel and oversee a successful Christmas programme. We are currently working on our Christmas menu and after that we are hoping to hold a wedding fayre, possibly around March next year.

“It would also be good to develop some of our golf packages with so many good courses in the area.”

Legacy Hotels and Resorts operates over 30 three and four-star properties with more than 2,000 guest rooms.
