Irish-born Scanlon previously worked at The Lanesborough for 14 years as night manager, reservations manager, front of house manager and rooms division manager and deputy to the managing director. Scanlon has also worked for Sheraton Skyline, Heathrow Airport and Trusthouse Forte Hotels.

Credited by parent company Dorchester Collection with creating a stronger revenue management culture within the group, Scanlon said he would enjoy being back on the front-line of hotel management.

"I am excited to return to an on-property role at The Dorchester during such a monumental year when the world’s spotlight is on London. I look forward to working with the team to continue The Dorchester’s uncompromising commitment to providing the ultimate in bespoke luxury service to its guests," he said.

Scanlon will be returning to the Mayfair hotel after previously working as revenue manager for the venue. Roland Fasel, general manager and regional director UK at The Dorchester, welcomed the appointment and said Scanlon would bring knowledge of bespoke high quality guest care to the role.

"I am delighted to have John join us in this pivotal role which is responsible for taking key strategy from concept to implementation. He will be a strong player in our vision to keep The Dorchester at the front of the ultra luxury hotel market in London,” he said.

In September 2011 the Dorchester Collection added 45 Park Lane to their portfolio of luxury hotels in the UK which includes The Dorchester, Coworth Park, Ascot and venues in Europe and the USA.
