Aikens, chef-patron of Tom Aikens Restaurant and Tom's Kitchen will design the menu for the event at Kensington Olympia on 7 October, 42 weeks before the London 2012 Opening Ceremony, that will be attended by British Olympians and celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment.

British Olympic Association chief executive, Andy Hunt, said: “He is undoubtedly one of the UK’s most gifted chefs and to have such a great British talent supporting this Team GB event will certainly add a special flavour to the evening.”

Aikens described the appointment as a 'privilege'. "I’m a big supporter of Team GB and am relishing the opportunity to design a menu for some of Britain’s greatest sporting talent on such a prestigious occasion,” he added.

The event, which will see entertainment headlined by Sir Tom Jones, will aim to raise funds for Team GB through ticket sales and an auction.
