Air purification developer Plasma Clean has joined forces with Meiko to help reduce food waste odours by providing its Xtract 2100 ioniser as standard odour control in Meiko's food waste management systems.

Meiko Microvac systems transport commercial food wastage to a central tank, storing it for several weeks before being emptied. Bad odours commonly occur in the vacuum pumps and ventilation areas of the system, which Plasma Clean says is traditionally controlled through an expensive roof exhaust, sometimes difficult to accommodate.

The new partnership means that businesses using Meiko products can now benefit from immediate removal of bad odours arising from kitchen waste because the Plasma Clean Xtracts use ionisation technology to destroy smells at source and before they become a problem.

Bill Downie, managing director, Meiko, said: “We now offer the Xtract 2100 as a standard odour control option in our Microvac system because it eradicates smells at source, is easy to maintain and replace and offers real value for money to customers. It’s a truly cost effective way for our customers to combat food waste odours.”

The technology was launched across Meiko's range following a successful trial at the Langham Hotel in London where foul smells had been coming from the tank, exhaust and vacuum pumps of a Meiko Microvac system and contaminating the loading bay and ball room areas.
