Technology provider Torex has launched a cloud-based Point of Sale (POS) system for use by staff in restaurants, hotels and pubs.

The HTML5 POS called kachng! works via a browser on any tablet device or smartphone as well as on the traditional POS, enabling staff of busy venues to use it while they are on the move or at bars or tables outside or even in pop-up businesses.

Torex said the benefits of a cloud-based system were that it could be set up quickly and can make savings as it can be used as a SaaS system with a monthly service instead of a licence fee and does not need big investment in hardware.

Paul Broome, chief technology officer at Torex said: “As IT becomes more consumer friendly, we need to ensure that technology is simple and easy to use, so we decided to ‘free the POS’ and make it mobile, independent and user-friendly. That’s what kachng! offers our customers and we hope all retailers, pubs, restaurants or bars, whether start-ups or established, can reap the benefits of deploying it.

“The rise in mobile technology brings enormous business benefits to retailers and hospitality companies, and kachng! is Torex’s answer to the need for flexibility, providing the depth of the traditional POS in the lightest way possible. It’s agnostic to the backend and can tie in to existing systems from an infrastructure perspective but is also a potential ‘queue-busting’ device, providing better customer service on the shop floor."

Services available through kachng! include trading sessions, full cash management including: float control, petty cash, cash settlements, statements of the day’s trading and tender report. Tthe sales features include: returns, price modifications, voids, suspend and recall actions, and other services such as electronic audit, enterprise dashboard, KPIs and a promotions engine.

The range of kachng! services can be accessed via broadband and, or 3G networks.
