The 10 young semi-finalists in the 2017 Chef Stagiaire Awards have been revealed, including chefs from Lucknam Park, Hampton Manor, and Stoke Park.

Each of the semi-finalists will now go on to take part in a one-week stage at a different UK Michelin-starred restaurant as part of their prize.

The restaurants taking part in the semi-final include Simpsons in Birmingham, Casamia in Bristol, and Pétrus, Outlaw’s at the Capital, Fera, and Alyn Williams at The Westbury, in London.

The semi-finalists will then go ahead to the Final, which takes the form of a one-week stage with Sat Bains at the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham.

The overall final prize is a four-week culinary journey around the world, including an all-expenses paid trip to the two Michelin starred Les Sources de Caudalie in Bordeaux, working under head chef Nicolas Masse.

They will then fly to the Six Senses Zil Pasyon hotel in the Seychelles, for a further four weeks’ cooking. The finalist will be cooking in the kitchens, but their accommodation will be in the hotel itself, and they will also have access to the resort’s entertainment and other facilities.

The 10 semi-finalists have been whittled down from a shortlist of 20, itself decided from an original list of over 300 entrants.

The competition judges are James Mackenzie, head chef and proprietor of Michelin-starred The Pipe & Glass in Yorkshire; Simon Haigh, food and beverage director of the Eden Hotel Collection; and Kenny Atkinson, head chef and proprietor of the Michelin-starred House of Tides in Newcastle.

The Chef Staigiare Awards, as their name suggests, were set up in 2014 to help young chefs increase their skills, learn from top chefs, and more easily take part in Michelin-level stages.

It is open to any chef under the age of 25 who would like to work in some of the UK’s – and the world’s – most successful and high profile kitchens.
