AccorHotels has confirmed that it will open the world’s tallest Novotel in London this year.

The four-star, 127m high venue in Marsh Street, Canary Wharf, will be the new flagship site for the French hotel giant.

Originally set to open in January 2017, it will feature 313 rooms - including 26 suites - nine meeting rooms and breakout areas, ‘cutting edge’ restaurants and bars, and a sustainable design.

The venue is a marquee investment for AccorHotel’s HotelInvest division as part of its wider plan to spend £160m on opening five new UK hotels in 2016-17.

Once complete the developments will bring the hotel group's UK portfolio to 97 sites.

Hervé Deligny, COO of HotelInvest, AccorHotels UK, said: “The Novotel Canary Wharf is a prime example of the new development work we are seeking to undertake. It is a top quality, well-designed and constructed hotel in a prime location.”

AccorHotels - which aims to be an eco-friendly group - said it would release details of the hotel's sustainability credentials in due course.

Under the firm's Planet 21 scheme, cards are left in guest's rooms encouraging them to turn off lights and recycle.

The group has also pledged to plant 10m trees by 2021 and is rolling out electric car charging stations across its UK hotels.

AccorHotels operates 3,900 hotels in 92 countries across a portfolio including the Mecure, Sofitel, ibis and Pullman brands.
