Shaker Group has revealed plans to open upmarket restaurant and cocktail bar Gas Street Social in Birmingham this March.

The group, which opened Shaker&Company in London three years ago, has secured a 4300 sq ft site at The Mailbox – Birmingham’s luxury retail and restaurant complex. It plans to invest £750,000 in the project.

Focused around the concept of ‘sharing and socialising’, Gas Street Social will offer a European menu of ‘shareable and seasonal’ dishes such as grazing boards, small plates, stone-baked flatbreads, locally sourced meats and seafood.

An extensive selection of regional and international craft beers and fine wines will be on offer alongside a cocktail menu designed by Shaker Consultancy.

The interior has been designed by local firm Spencer Swinden and takes inspiration from Birmingham’s industrial and cultural heritage as well as the ‘sharing and socialising’ theme. It will feature large sharing tables, intimate booth areas, a cosy ‘snug’ area and an outdoor terrace.

Adam Freeth, managing director of Shaker Group and founder of Gas Street Social, said: “We are delighted to be amongst such great company here at the Mailbox, and as a Birmingham based company, we’re excited to be opening this venue on home soil.

“We’ve brought together a fantastic team to create an incredible design and food and beverage offer, which we believe will be a great addition to the new Mailbox and Birmingham’s world-class culinary scene.”

Melony Spencer, director at Spencer Swinden, added: “We were excited to work on Gas Street Social from the outset as Adam had such a clear vision of his concept of sharing and socialising.

“We’ve brought that to life with design that creates a fantastic energy throughout the whole venue amid big sharing tables and fluid seating to suit different sized groups, in a hyper-modern setting of urban industrial glamour.”
