Beef and gin restaurant Alston Bar & Beef will open a second site, in Manchester, this year following a £2m investment.

Located in the city’s Corn Exchange, the 160-cover venue is due to open this autumn following an extensive fit-out of the 6,500sq ft basement space that includes an open kitchen and a 12-seat private dining room.

The new restaurant will be the first in Manchester to offer Tweed Valley steak on its menu, according to brand owner Glendola Leisure. The beef is selected from the top 1% of Scottish beef and dry hung for 35 days, it says.

It will also have a strong gin focus with 58 different varieties on offer from across the world, several of which are distilled in Manchester, including Manchester Three Rivers and Manchester Gin. A range of bespoke gin-infusions made using a blend of botanicals, many of which will be foraged from the Manchester area, will also be available.

“We have big plans to transform the space at the Corn Exchange into a welcoming environment that will provide the perfect back drop for people to come and enjoy the best gin and steak on offer in Manchester,” says Alex Salussolia, Glendola Leisure managing director.

The first Alston Bar & Beef opened in Glasgow in 2014.

“Having seen such success in Glasgow, we’re confident that Alston Bar & Beef will make the perfect addition to the Manchester food and drink scene,” adds Salussolia.
