Atul Kochhar, the Michelin-starred chef/patron of the Benares restaurant in Mayfair, is to operate the fine-dining restaurant at the Macdonald Compleat Angler Hotel in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, according to BigHospitality's sister publication M&C Report.

Kochhar, who was the first ever Indian chef to win a coveted Michelin Star, is believed to have agreed to on the lease of the restaurant at the award-winning site.

The premises, which were formerly home to the Aubergine Restaurant in conjunction with the London Fine Dining Group, are currently laid out to provide 40 covers and benefit from impressive views of the River Thames and the Marlow Weir.

The hotel holds four AA red stars and is rated one of the top hotels in the UK and Ireland.

DMR Property is understood to have acted on behalf of Kochhar, who also oversees Ananda in Dublin and Indian Essence in Petts Wood.

Colliers International was appointed by MacDonald at the end of last year to seek a new operator for the site’s restaurant.

Macdonald dining

Macdonald Hotels is re-launching 16 of its restaurants as part of a £2m investment in its food and beverage offer.

The group is launching new ‘unique’ concepts at some of its venues, including the £600k Rocca@Holyrood restaurant at Macondald Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh, and the 1650 St Johns restaurant at Mcdonald New Blossoms in Chester city centre.

It is de-formalising other sites to offer a more casual dining option, and has launched its Scottish Steak Club concept across five of its restaurants.
