The brothers behind Barrafina and Soho’s Quo Vadis are to launch a new Mexican taco restaurant in London this year.

Sam and Eddie Hart will open El Pastór in Stoney Street near Borough Market in early November.

It is a joint project with the Hart’s younger brother James and Crispin Somerville, former owner of cult Mexico City nightclub El Colmillio in the 1990’s and 2000’s.

“El Pastor is something we have been wanting to create ever since Crispin and I left Mexico, sharing some of the great flavours and all-round enjoyment of an authentic taco experience that delighted us so much during our time living there,” said Sam.

The 60-cover venue will feature a ‘trompo’ upright grill used to make signature pork ‘al pastor’ – or ‘shepherd style’ – tacos, alongside a range of fish and vegetarian options.

The El Pastór team has developed their own special house marinade and has dedicated the entirety of the mezzanine floor to a tortilla factory which will produce freshly baked corn tortillas twice daily.

Drinks will include mescal, tequila, sangrita and Mexican beers served alongside snacks such as Mexican seafood tostadas, chicharrón de queso and chargrilled esquites.

“It feels like the appetite, our team and the site have finally come together at the right time to bring El Pastór to life,” said Sam.

El Pastór will open in late October/early November at 7a Stoney Street, London, SE1 9AA.
