Restaurant group Black and Blue opens its seventh site on London’s Southbank, and announces further expansion plans

Tootsies co-founders Alan Bacon and Nick Hill have this weekend opened their seventh restaurant after acquiring The Archduke wine bar on London’s South Bank.

Following a brief one-week refurbishment, The Archduke, which will not be renamed, reopened at the weekend with new green leather banquettes and marble topped tables providing seating for 300 covers.

Serving the traditional Black and Blue menu consisting mainly of British steaks, The Archduke will be open all day seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, while maintaining the regular live jazz events the venue has long been known for.

The Archduke joins five other Black and Blue sites in Notting Hill Gate, South Kensington, Belsize Park, Marylebone and Borough Market, Mortimer’s Grill in Bloomsbury, and the soon to open Sweetwater Bar in Marylebone.

Hill confirmed that the pair are continuing to seek further sites for expansion. “Our expansion plans are on course and we are actively looking for sites of around 3,500sqft in central London,” he said.

Bacon and Hill founded Black and Blue in 2000 after selling Tootsies, which they ran for 30 years, in 1999.
