Bruce Bar, the multiple pub operator run by Michael Nicholas, has acquired the Pub on the Park in Hackney as its eighth venue

Nicholas, who also owns the five-strong Bodean’s BBQ restaurant chain in London with co-owner Andre Blais, acquired the Pub on the Park from freeholders Brendan and Ann McDonald who had owned the premises for 20 years.

Chris Bickle of Davis Coffer Lyons who handled the deal on behalf of the McDonalds, said: “There was a great deal of interest from a wide range of operators which resulted in a Best and Final bids process. The attraction here is not just the free of tie element but also the huge potential to increase sales.”

The pub, which features a 2,300sqft raised decked terrace overlooking London Fields, now joins Bruce Bar’s growing estate, which includes The Enterprise and The Monarch in Camden. Nicholas plans to make a few changes to Pub on the Park, with the introduction of a new food menu with all dishes priced under £10.

Earlier this year Blais revealed plans to extend the Bodean’s brand and open a Canadian-style pizza restaurant in London.
