David Muñoz, who holds three Michelin stars at Diver XO in Madrid, is to open his long-awaited London restaurant later this year.

The chef, dubbed the ‘enfant terrible’ of Spanish gastronomy, will bring his elaborate cooking style to Old Burlington Street in Mayfair when he launches Street XO in November.

It comes nearly three years after Muñoz first announced plans to launch a UK outpost of Madrid’s Street XO in January 2014.

The new restaurant will aim to evoke the atmosphere of a street food market, with an open theatre kitchen and chefs serving food alongside waiters.

Dishes have been designed to ‘shock, surprise and delight’, with sharing plates including Pekinese Dumpling, Crunchy Pig’s Ear, Strawberry Hoi Sin, Aioli and Gherkins; Steamed Club Sandwich, Ricotta Cheese, Fried Quail Egg; and Kimchi Croquetas, Tuna Steak and Burnt Butter.

The Spanish chef moved to London when he was 21 and spent five years working in restaurants including Nobu and Hakkasan.

Muñoz said: “I feel like [London] is my second home. Great things have happened for me here and I really grew as a chef working in London kitchens. I’m so excited to now bring a cooking style that I’ve really evolved in Madrid to London.”

Street XO will take bookings for tables, but spaces at a counter bar will be available on a first come, first served basis.
