Edinburgh’s David Ramsden expands his Dogs restaurant chain

Edinburgh-based David Ramsden has opened Underdogs, his third venture in 18 months and plans to open a fourth, Seadogs, next year.

Aptly-named bar Underdogs opened earlier this month in the basement of Ramsden’s second venture (A)more Dogs​, an Italian-themed restaurant situated on Hanover Street near his British-themed offering, The Dogs.

The bar, which follows Ramsden's penchant for naming his ventures after his dogs, takes on a relaxed feel, decked-out with chesterfield sofas and leather armchairs. It can seat up to 60 people and offers a bar menu of inexpensive nibbles such as mushroom pate and tomato bruschetta.

David Ramsden said: "We believe Underdogs will be welcomed by all those who enjoy the ambience of The Dogs, whatever the occasion."

In January Seadogs will open its doors, but this time Ramsden will be offering fish and chips. He said: “It will be low-end, low-spend but done really well.”

Ramsden does not have any immediate plans beyond Seadogs. He said: “Having done three restaurants and a bar, that will do for the time being. But down the line in a year or so I would imagine the next step would be to roll them out into other Scottish cities.”
