A £20m retail redevelopment in London’s Square Mile is now almost fully pre-let after three restaurants took units on long-term leases.

Franco Manca, Crab Tavern and José Pizarro Tapas Bar & Restaurant have all acquired space in the Broadgate Circle scheme, which is due to open in April. The only retail units remaining are two kiosks.

Franco Manca, which operates 10 sites in London, has taken on a 1,500 sq ft property on a 10 year lease. The restaurant chain specialises in Neapolitan-style pizzas made with slow-rising sourdough and baked in a wood-burning brick oven.

New US surf ‘n’ turf concept Crab Tavern will open its first UK restaurant, a 5,700 sq ft unit on a 15 year lease, as part of the redevelopment. It is due to open later in the summer.

José Pizarro Tapas Bar & Restaurant, developed by Spanish chef José Pizarro, has taken a 1,400 sq ft property on a 10 year lease and will offer an all-day menu of contemporary Spanish cooking.

José Pizarro currently operates two restaurants, ‘José’ and ‘Pizarro’, situated close together on Bermondsey Street, in south London.

Other restaurants and bars that have signed up to the 45,000 sq ft Broadgate Circle redevelopment include Hakkasan Group’s Yauatcha, the Botanist from ETM Group, Aubaine, Shoryu Ramen and Comptoir Libanais.

Restaurants and cafés already at Broadgate include Gaucho Grill, Rocket, Piccolino and Gatti’s, in addition to pubs and bars such as Corney & Barrow, the Fleetwood, Jamies Wine Bar and the White Horse.

Matthew Pinsent, head of city offices for property developer British Land, said: “The new restaurant signings, many of which are new to the City, are fantastic news for Broadgate.

“They demonstrate our commitment to provide a broad range of stylish and good quality dining options that will help to attract and retain our occupiers, and help re-position Broadgate to meet the changing needs of the City.”

With an estimated 250,000 people passing through Broadgate every day, the area is also expected to benefit from the completion of the Liverpool Street Crossrail station in 2018.
